God hears the thoughts of your heart, and you will find that God will respond to the things in your heart more than the things on your tongue.God does not care whether you shout or you whisper, as long as you do it in faith and integrity.
Let me start by looking at the benefits of praying out loud, then I will go into silent prayer.
Benefits of Praying Out
Praying out loud can help certain people to focus and not get distracted. Some people have too many thoughts in their heads which they struggle to subdue. Others get distracted easily by outside events. So when they close their eyes and pray out loud it becomes easier for them to focus on one thing.
If you are one of them. you can try it.
If you are praying for others it’s good to pray out loud so people can say Amen knowing what it is you prayed for on their behalf.
There are plenty of examples of loud prayers in the bible. However, God hears very well, silent prayers, as long as they are done in faith. Let me give bible examples…
Genesis 24:45 English Standard Version (ESV)
45 “Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her water jar on her shoulder, and she went down to the spring and drew water. I said to her, ‘Please let me drink.’
Psalm 139:1-4 English Standard Version (ESV)
139 O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether
Romans 8:26-27
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because[a] the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God
1 Samuel 1:12-13 English Standard Version (ESV)
12 As she continued praying before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. 13 Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman.
Matthew 6:6 English Standard Version (ESV)
6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
As you grow in the word, and in your understanding of God, you will begin to understand the various ways in which he relates to you. As you do this, there are situations where you need him to respond as a Father, and you will naturally address him as Father, and at times as High Priest and other times as King and other times as Judge. These things will naturally happen as you grow in your understanding of who he is and the different ways he works in your life. This helps you fellowship better with him in all his different offices.
But if you are not at that stage… do not worry. The Holy Spirit who intercedes for you in prayer makes everything right. And God is more interested in the state of your heart than in the semantics of your words. He bears with you at whatever stage of growth and knowledge you are at. Just follow the unction.
