In the Old Covenant people were under the 613 Laws of Moses. Those 613 Laws given to Moses are not applicable to a person who is in the New Covenant.
In the New Covenant we operate under 3 Laws.
1. The Law of Christ
2. The Law of The Spirit
3. The Law of Faith.
1. The Law of Christ
1 Corinthians 9:21 (NET)
To those free from the law I became like one free from the law (though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law.
Paul was free from The Law given to Moses. But he was not lawless. Any man who is lawless is antiChrist.
The word interpreted as lawless is the same word interpreted as iniquity.
It means being unaccountable.
Paul and all people in the New Covenant are under The Law of Christ.
The Law of Christ simply means that Christ is now Law to us. Whatever Christ commanded us to do, we must observe.
All commandments that Jesus Christ gave to the church via the apostles, must be observed by the Christian.
Matthew 28:19-20 (NET)
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The commandments of Christ were given to us via the apostles and are the foundation of all doctrine. They were written down in the bible.
Even Paul was also chosen to give the commandments of Christ to the gentiles.
1 Corinthians 14:37 (WEB)
If any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.
…….
Obedience to the commandments of the Lord which were delivered to us via the apostles and written in the bible, is the main test for one’s love for Jesus.
John 14:21 (WEB) One who has my commandments and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.”
Matthew 7:24 (WEB)
“Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock.
2. The Law of the Spirit
Romans 8:2 (WEB)
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.
The Law of the Spirit means, what every the Holy Spirit tells you must be obeyed.
If you refuse to obey the instruction of the Holy Spirit, you have sinned.
The Law of the Spirit can be different from one person to another.
Let me give an example.
PAUL AND HIS COMPANIONS WERE FORBIDDEN TO PREACH IN ASIA
Acts 16:6 (KJV) Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
JOHN WAS COMMANDED TO PREACH TO ASIA.
Revelation 1:11 (KJV)
Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia….
Preaching the word is a good thing but Paul and his companions were forbidden by the Holy Spirot to preach the word in Asia.
If Paul had gone ahead to preach in Asia, it would have been a Sin before God.
However, the Law of the Spirit is not doctrine. It’s personal.
Paul could not set a doctrine which says, people should not preach in Asia simply because he was forbidden.
This is where many Men of God have erred. They take what the Holy Spirit says to them and make it church doctrine.
Caution
The Law of the Spirit will never contradict the Law of Christ.
The Holy Spirit was sent to glorify Christ. If he opposes what Christ says, then he is no longer glorifying Christ.
John 16:13-14 (NET)
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you what is to come.
14 He will glorify me, because he will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you.
👆🏿
So while while the Holy Spirit will guide each person in different ways, He will never contradict the Doctrine of Christ which is written in the Bible.
3. The Law of Faith
Whatever you will do, no matter how good it seems.
If it is not of faith then it is a sin before God.
Let me give an example:
If a person reads the Bible and for some reason believes that God does not want people to eat pork.
If that person eats pork then he has sinned because he has acted against his conscience and his faith.
Romans 14:23 (NET)
But the man who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not do so from faith, and whatever is not from faith is sin.
God will say, if you believed that I hate pork, so why did you it.
But the person who is convinced that God does not care about pork, can eat pork and its not a sin to them.
Another example is this.
If a person ia convinced in their hearts that NOT tithing will anger God. If that person witholds their tithe, then they have sinned against God.
But if another has read the scriptures and has come to the knowledge that tithing is good but, God will not condemn me if I don’t tithe.
When such a person does not tithe, they are not condemned.
Conclusion
The three laws, The Law of Christ, of The Spirit and of Faith are all accomplished in Love. Love is the fulfillment of all that Christ is, The Spirit is and Faith is. You will notice therefore, that judgment will be relative and unique to each person. However, the foundation of all that we must do, is Christ. The Law of Christ is the foundation of doctrine and basis of our faith.
