The Sin of Jeroboam

Listen to this article

Several years ago, I was speaking to someone about false prophets. I said to them, I believe the Lord showed me that so and so was a false prophet.

The person then said to me, ‘well, whether or not he is a false prophet it doesn’t matter because Jesus gets the glory at the end.’ He said, ‘He heals people and delivers people from problems in the name of Jesus and when its all done and over he says, give glory to Jesus for your miracle. so at the end of the day, the person who is healed and helped thanks Jesus and worships him more. So, whether or not the power was not of God it does not matter, because Jesus is glorified.’ He said, ‘If I get healed of cancer and I thank Jesus for my healing, and worship him even more then whats wrong.’

This guy had a point. I was speechless. If the people who are healed by a fallen angel or spirit ascribed their healing to Jesus and glorify Christ at the end, what does it matter. Either way Jesus wins.

In fact I even remembered this scripture:

Philppians 1
17
The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.
18But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

But something bothered me. The scriptures say that False prophets shall lead many astray. So why would Satan go to such great lengths, performing signs and wonders in the name of Jesus, so that Jesus can get more glory and more followers.

I prayed about this for a while, and the Lord responded by giving me a teaching on the Sin of Jeroboam. This is the teaching I will share with you.

A List of The Verses

The Twelve tribes had been divided into two kingdoms after Solomon. Ten Tribes were called The Kingdom of Israel. Then Judah and Benjamin were called the Kingdom of Judah. From Judah is where you get the word Jews. The Jews are people from the tribe of Judah.

As you go throughout the  book of kings, you see God lamenting always over the sin of Jeroboam which led all Israel to sin. In fact about 400 years later, The Sin of Jeroboam led to The Kingdom of Israel being sent into captivity under the assyrians. Up to today, the Israelites have never returned from that captivity. The whole Kingdom of Israel was lost.

2 Kings 17:21
When he tore Israel away from the house of David, they made Jeroboam son of Nebat their king. Jeroboam enticed Israel away from following the Lord and caused them to commit a great sin

1 Kings 13:34 New International Version (NIV)
34 This was the sin of the house of Jeroboam that led to its downfall and to its destruction from the face of the earth.

1 Kings 16:1-2 New International Version (NIV)
16 Then the word of the Lord came to Jehu son of Hanani concerning Baasha: 2 “I lifted you up from the dust and appointed you ruler over my people Israel, but you followed the ways of Jeroboam and caused my people Israel to sin and to arouse my anger by their sins.

 A Special Mention

I would like to give a special mention to another great false prophet. If you look in the book of Revelation, you will notice that when God shall seal the 144000 from the 12 tribes of Israel, one of the twelve tribes is missing. The Tribe of Dan. The tribe of Dan was cut off from Israel and shall never have inheritance in God’s Kingdom, the New Jerusalem. God replaced Dan with Ephraim and so Ephraim has a double inheritance. Ephraim is Josephs’s son, so he receives an inheritance as Joseph and then receives another inheritance as Ephraim. So this double portion is the reason why God call’s Ephraim his First Born.

The guy behind the fall of Dan and it’s ultimate removal from Israel, is non other Moses grandson. And he did it in a similar way to what Jeroboam later did.

Judges 18:30-31 New International Version (NIV)
30 There the Danites set up for themselves the idol, and Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the time of the captivity of the land. 31 They continued to use the idol Micah had made, all the time the house of God was in Shiloh.

The devil never changes his tactics, he merely updates them to fit the times. He modernises the same old strategies. When we look at how the Devil deceived Israel, we can see how the Church shall be led into the great falling away; the great deception. The new testament tells us that the church has to go through the great falling away first, before christ comes.

 The Devil Strategy

1 Kings 12
31 Jeroboam built shrines on high places and appointed priests from all sorts of people, even though they were not Levites. 32 He instituted a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the festival held in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar

Jeroboam was made king by God, not by Satan. So he carried God’s authority and headship over the people. But because he was afraid that if people went to Jerusalem to the temple, they would end up following the king of Judah and he would lose his power, he set up an alternate form of religion in his home town.

He set up priests just as there were priests in Jerusalem, he set up altars. They followed all the rituals and laws that had been prescribed in the law. The things they did were right, except that the priests were not Levites that God had appointed. Jeroboam then took the rod of Moses, the one with the brazen serpent. The one that God had said, if anyone looks at it, they will be healed. He set it up in the high places so that the sick could come and have healing.

Now no one needed to go to Jerusalem.

The Hebrew word for God is Elohim. So I will use the Restored Names King James Version so you can see something.

 The Deception

When God comes down from heaven on mount Sinai he introduces himself in this way.

Exodus 20:1-2 (RNKJV)
1 And Elohim spake all these words, saying, 2 I am YHVH thy Elohim, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Yahweh was the Elohim of Israel who had brought them out of Egypt. Jeroboam sets up a golden calf and then says these words…

1 Kings 12:28 (RNKJV)
Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy elohim, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

Jeroboam set up an idol it Israel and told them that this idol was the Elohim that had brought them out of Egypt. So if you were to ask these people which God they worshipped, they would say we worship Yahweh our Elohim who spoke to Moses and brought us out of Egypt.

In the same manner, prophets have set up an idol in the church, and they say to us, this is Jesus Christ who died who died for your sins.

This is the Deception of the Sin of Jeroboam.

Let’s get deeper

The Principle of Misdirection

The sin of Jeroboam uses the principle of misdirection. So, when the Israelites would go to the high places, they would sacrifice all the right sacrifices to this idol yet fully convinced that they were sacrificing to Jehovah their Elohim who had brought them out of Egypt.

When they prayed to this idol for healing or success and they find that healing and success, they would not say i thank demons, no. They would say i give glory to Yahweh my Elohim because he has given me healing, because he has given me success.

And for sure they would find success because behind every idol is a demon.

1 Corinthians 10:19-20 New International Version (NIV)
19 Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.

 The first Perpetrator

The first man to fall for this misdirection was non other than Aaron the brother of Moses, and later high priest.

Exodus 32:4-5 (RNKJV)
4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy elohim, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to YHVH.

Aaron made the first calf. Notice that when Aaron sets up the altar, he says… Let us have a feast to Yahweh. So these Israelites began to sing praises and celebrate in Yahweh’s name, yet this did not honour God. It made God angry.

Another Jesus, Another Spirit, Another Gospel

The bible tells us that there is another gospel, which has another Jesus and another Spirit.

Paul warns the corinthians…

2 Corinthians 11:4 New International Version (NIV)
4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.

The church is putting up easily with another Jesus, and is easily receiving another spirit, because they have accepted another gospel. So, when that Jesus heals you and you say I thank you Jesus for my healing you are not glorifying the true Jesus but the demon that healed you. When a false prophet opens doors for you to become wealthy, every time you say, “I thank God for this car” You are not worshiping the God of heaven, but the god of your prophet, the demon that gave you that car.

This is how Satan is being worshipped in the name of Jesus.

Solution

1.The gospel of christ is simple and straightforward. The name Lucifer means “Bringer of Light” Light is symbolic of knowledge and revelation. Satan always wants to come with some complex revelation.

Corinthians 11:3 King James Version (KJV)
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ

  1. The gospel will never change or improve or be upgraded. There will never be a better revelation of the gospel than what has been given by the apostles. Any improvement, addition or subtraction is a perversion. And when Satan brings it, he calls it a new revelation, a better understanding.

Galatians 1:6-9 New International Version (NIV)
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!

  1. Remain in the simple teaching of Christ through his apostles.

2 John 1:9 Christian Standard Bible
Anyone who does not remain in Christ’s teaching but goes beyond it does not have God. The one who remains in that teaching, this one has both the Father and the Son.

John 8:31 New Living Translation
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.

1 Timothy 4:16 King James Bible
Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

1 corinthians 4:6 International Standard Version
Brothers, I have applied all this to Apollos and myself for your benefit, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what the Scriptures say. Then you will stop boasting about one person at the expense of another.

Conclusion

Here is a list of warning from Jesus and his apostles.

JESUS

Matthew 7:15
[ True and False Prophets ] “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

PAUL

Acts 20:29-31 New International Version (NIV)
29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

1 Timothy 4:1-5 New International Version (NIV)
4 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

PETER

2 Peter 2 New International Version (NIV)
1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

JUDE

Jude 4 New International Version (NIV)
4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about[a] long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

JOHN

1 John 4:1 New International Version (NIV)
4 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

I END WITH THIS….

2 Timothy 4:3 Amplified Bible (AMP)
3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold,
