UNDERSTANDING POVERTY

According to God every human being is poor and there is no such thing as a poor child of God.

Let me show you.

Jesus said that the gospel must be preached to the POOR.

Luke 4:18 (KJV)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

So who are these poor who need the gospel preached to them… it is ALL NATIONS, ALL CTEATURES, ALL HUMANITY.

First the gospel must be preached to all nations.

Mark 16:15 (NET)
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

All these billionaires: Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg….

Before God, they are all in poverty and they need the gospel.

The greatest wealth you can have is eternal life. Without eternal life without God’s spirit in you, the you are in poverty. Even if you have Billions of dollars and mansions and cars and large pieces of land, if you are not born again, if you don’t have God’s life in you, you are POOR.

These billionaires are poor, as far as God is concerned.

So, when God looks at the world, every person who has his eternal spirit life, is rich, and every person who does not have it, is poor and needs the gospel.

Yet we have Christians, who emulate unbelievers and are teaching congregations how to be like Bill Gates and Elon Musk. Its because such Christians are ignorant of who they are. They don’t know they are Rich.

This is why Jesus says…

Revelation 2:9 (NET)
‘I know the distress you are suffering and your poverty (but you are rich).

Do not be like Esau. Esau could not see the value in what he had. Ultimately he traded the birth right, which was greater, for bread.

Christians who think being rich is becoming a millionaire, don’t know who they are. Every child of God is an heir of God’s kingdom. They are richer than any billionaire of this world.

2 Corinthians 8:9 (NET)
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that you by his poverty could become rich.

When was Jesus rich?

When he was in heaven, he was rich. Becoming a human being was poverty. Even if he had received all that wealth from Satan, it is still poverty, compared to heaven.

So when the word became flesh, he became poor. Just as all humans are poor. So that we can become rich, by gaining eternal life. If you received the gospel, you are now a beneficiary. You are now rich.

We can preach this Gospel even to a billionaire. Telling them that right now in your billions, you are poor.

But Jesus became like you, so you could become like him.

Let’s have our understanding lined to that of Christ.
