The greek word is glossa, and it can refer to either, the flat palate in your mouth, which you use for tasting food, or to a language. For the purpose of this Presentation, I will only refer to language. So a tongue is a language.
1 Corinthians 12:10 (NET)
to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
Note: it says: DIFFERENT KINDS OF TONGUES.
If we understood what this meant we would have no problem harmonizing scriptures.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF TONGUES
Let me quote this in another version.
1 Corinthians 12:10 (WEB)
and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages.
What does he mean different KINDS of languages.?
At one point Paul speaks of Different languages, and then at another he speaks of Different KINDS of languages: Shona, English, Ndebele; those are different languages. But when we speak of Different KINDS of languages we are referring to something else. When we speak of KINDS of languages we are looking at for example; Human languages, animal languages, spiritual languages, angelic languages, cherubim languages, seraphim languages, demonic languages or languages of other invisible creatures that God created. These are not different languages, they are different KINDS of languages.
